small bites about singapore #1

Singapore river which serves as a reservoir too.
the famous bungee jump.. anyone?

walking through the tunnel! fascinating! ;)
One thing I learned while walking through this place was that  'pleasure that you enjoy have its price to pay'. How?  For example,  you walk into a restaurant..From the outside, infront, everything looks perfect but there will always be people behind the scenes to make the service perfect and what not.
That bird over there was done by a famous artist, Fernando Botero

pretty bridge

now that's interesting
as the picture says..
What is all those photos above? WELL, it's my 2nd day in Singapore! [I shall not mention about what happen on the first day.]
Anyway, I attended this cross-cultural introduction which my uni had for the international students as part of their interaction programme. Thus, this event is aimed for all the international students to get to know Singapore better. I must say that I am very impressed with the country itself (definitely not to compare it to where I'm from) BUT from the start to the end, I was really fascinated by the system they implemented and the lifestyle there. We were told that we had to go for a so-called 'Resilience Trail'. What is resilience? Well, basically we all had to walk few kilometres without stops although, we did stop for ice-cream. :D

MORE PICHAS..

....

Lookie here, a building with colorful windows!
Ministry of Informations, Communications and Arts (MICA)

There is a story told behind the reason this white building was built about a father and his son

Some part of the Fort left after so many years has passed which was built by the British who invaded Singapore back then

The stairs right there used to be a 'secret' passage way for the British soldiers

Field inside the Fort whereby concerts are usually held now which used to be one of Singapore's earliest cemetery.

Building in memory of Whampoa(Hoo Ah Kay) who used to import ice into Singapore from overseas. However, his business failed not long after due to the high pricing for iced drinks back then.

to be continued . . . .

on the way

I have so many things in mind to do lately and one of the many reasons why I know I just won't be able to do it is the fact that time is very limited. Time, as you know will go *poof* just like that. For all you know, you might be 13 today and 30 tomorrow.
LOVEEEE the movie! Lovee Jennifer Garner!
Here's a brief list of what I wanted to do IF I was hardworking enough to organize my time properly and do it :
1. Read more book
2. Make a scrapbook
3. Sing at the old folk's home near my house
4. Learn to cook and bake cakes
5. Draw
6. Do a cover on this funny song that I like
7. Play a tchaikovsky piece on my violin
8. Watch the tv series, 'New girl'
9. Join a singing competition
10. Write a proper and nicer journal

But anyway, whatever situation you're in, be it having exams soon, waiting for job offer, getting married, financial crisis or going someplace far, always remember that when the world is getting faster, you need to slow it down by putting everything down for a while and start noticing opportunities that has always been there. You alone have the ultimate power to bring your life's journey to the next level and do things you've always wanted to do. You have enough time. If there's more than 24 hours i'm pretty sure you'll get too much of it in the long run. Hence, in every way you can, live your everyday like tomorrow will never come. Be open-minded, be a risk-taker and be someone who will never regret not doing what you've always wanted to do. (yes, that goes for myself as well)

latest news?

Everyone, yes absolutely everyone I know has been talking about this. The KONY2012.
I am not sure if it is really a real deal but either way, please, everyone out there, do know the real source and if possible, contact them. For those of you who don't know about this yet, you can log on to watch or perhaps to support in every way you can : http://s3.amazonaws.com/kony2012/kony-4.html

We all know that it is for a good cause but do know that if you are helping financially, find out where your money is going to. However, besides that being said, I am very sure that all of you are now aware of what's going on. Hopefully, you can find all the information in the link given or else, GOOGLE. :)
PEACE to everyone!

i will always love you

I first knew her in high school, when i was about 15. I knew her as "an oldie" (as it turns out, I am one too). Anyway, she has an amazing smile but sadly, behind those smiles, the whole world knows that she has been struggling. Sure, she has had breakdowns and what not but at least, she tried improving herself and get everything right again. For that, I admire all that has made her who she is.
As the title of my this blog post of mine above clearly refers to . . .
the late, Ms Whitney Houston.
May you rest in peace. You will forever be remembered.

old time favs!
How will I know

I wanna dance with somebody

KK!

Before I even got back, I received a phonecall from my parents saying that they want to spend christmas in the land where my grandparents once lived and so they thought that it'll be good for us kids to explore the place. So, last december, OFF we went to ...some say paradise(Malaysian version)!

Upon arrival, we travelled and explored the place on ....

..........air
I was fascinated by the fact that passengers in that particular plane can watch free movies, listen to song and what not in there. Long hour flights would surely be worth it.
Malaysia Airlines,people!

 .........water

What were they looking at?
 THIS >>>>>>>>>> colorful fishies!
on the way to Manukan Island

I can tell you one thing, the beach is FULL of not sand, but sea shells and "sea rocks" (if that's what you call them. correct me if i'm wrong)
Beautiful, isnt it?
. . . . . . . Land

this was on the way up to mt.kinabalu

Sure, once in a while, you'll see a baboon posing around
Dad brought us all to sight see our late grandpa's house long ago somewhere at Jln. Tuaran :')
There's this place called 'The Pines' somewhere at Kundasang. Beautiful place especially with the uphill scenery which kind of reminds me of the Genting Highlands in KL but cooler.

Yep, a visit to the Sabah Museum
Seriously, there is no other place where the beach is about 15 minutes or less from the city like @Tanjung Aru Beach

I tell you, the beef noodle was deliciousss! @Kah Hiong Ngiu Chap .they serve no pork.
..and i'm sure there is a lot more in KK that perhaps my family and I did not have that much time to explore. One thing is for sure, the whole time we were there was the time we had a whole lot of fun! Of course, not to forget Uncle Peng Fei and his family for their hospitality and all during our stay there. It surely made the trip even more exciting.
For any malaysians out there who wants to visit KK, you MUST try the parasailing! If not, you'll regret it. (trust me) I'm guessing that's the only place in Malaysia that you can get a gorgeous view of the sea.

home is indeed where the heart is

Winanga-Li! [I just found out from my college that this word means "memories" in a aboriginal term.]
Between 21 to 23 days, I'd be in my sweet smelling hometown, Kuching! I remember how I'd used to dislike being there for like, my whole life and that there is not many place to go unlike BIG BIG cities in other places. Little did I realise, now.. that other places may be awesome, heaps of excitements and delicious food, nothing beats being home. Being away from home makes me appreciate it more. Come to think of it, it's kind of true about what 'they' say, "You will not appreciate something or even someone until you lose them." Somewhat true..

Anyway, I need to get back on my books. Can't wait for my finals to be over.. then, I'll be back for more updates and of course, new layouts. [I've got a few designs up for editing and hopefully it'll turn out superfantabulous! that is if I don't delay it for much longer.]
 TATA!
when it's festive season, you'll see that cat in a festive outfit as well!

Maslow, the psychologist!

Halfway through college... well, actually.. its nearly the END of college. That was FAST!I've learned quite a lot, i must say especially with my favourite subject! Psychology! Thinking of being a psychologist? I don't know yet...BUT anywho, before I go on to procrastinating (which I really need to stop doing)... ON psychology:

Little note : I've decided that I'd use my blog for a GOOD cause for myself for the time being at least til my finals are over[which is in only 4 weeks time..whoohoo!]. Who knows, my blog would also be of good use to someone out there [educational purpose, perhaps] =D

First off, I realised that according to Maslow's theory of hierarchy of needs, I still need to achieve self- actualisation. What's that? Basically, there's 8 stages, of which is divided into 2 areas of needs: deficiency needs and growth needs. The image shown below is roughly how the hierarchy should look like.

Maslow had a previous initial concetualisation which only include one growth. As can be seen, Maslow states that every human being should aim for 'peak experiences' where we feel at one with the universe and to go beyond limitations of ourselves. Hence, under the deficiency needs, it consists of psychological needs, safety needs, belonging and love, and self-esteem.

PSYSIOLOGICAL NEEDS : hunger, thirst and generally maintaining our well-being is the most important in order to live

SAFETY AND SECURITY : needs such as putting roof over our heads and keeping ourselves from harm and danger.
BELONGING AND LOVE : the feeling of being accepted by others and to develop close relationships.
ESTEEM :
To have respect from others which involves being competent, gaining approval and recognition.

At higher level, upon fulfilling the deficiency needs, one would need to achieve and strive towards the growth needs which consists of understanding, aesthetic, self-actualisation and transcendence.

UNDERSTANDING : the need to know and understand

AESTHETIC : the need for aesthetic beauty

SELF-ACTUALISATION : Realising one's own potential, embrace the realities of the world (including themselves) rather than avoiding them. This also includes being creative, interested in solving problems, judge others without prejudiceand generally appreciate life.

TRANSCENDENCE : After achieving self-actualisation, a person can then try to achieve transcendence which is to help others to achieve their full potential.

interesting, no? That Maslow came up with such hierarchy which is somehow of 'general' thinking but somewhat, unique and of his own prespective whereby his theory is based on his statement that every human nature is good as every person's goal is to self-actualise and transcendence. Thus, this also shows the limitation of the theory. Maslow's theory is too focused only on a healthy personality resulting in assumption that everyone is good and does not take into consideration of any bad behaviour. In relation to that, the theory seems to be stagnant and stable over time and situation which also means that everyone's personality does not develop or even change through the years? . . . . something to think about.

That's all for Maslow's theory! :)
